Welcome to the history of the Tashkent International Model United Nations Society!

Our journey began in 2012 when a group of passionate and talented students came together at Westminster International University in Tashkent. Originally known as the WIUT International MUN Society, we embarked on a mission to promote global awareness and diplomacy through Model United Nations.

Since our inception, we have been committed to our vision. Year after year, the Society has organized local and international Model UN conferences, providing a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions and embrace the ideals of the United Nations.

In a significant milestone, 2019 marked the introduction of the Tashkent International Model UN Conference. Held from March 29th to 31st in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, TIMUN 2019 was a monumental event that brought together more than 500 delegates from all corners of the globe. This conference was not only a celebration of diplomacy but also a testament to our dedication, as it was nominated as "The Best Youth Social Project of 2019" by the Youth Union of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The conference simulated 8 UN Committees in honor of the Doha Declaration to promote the "Education for Justice" Initiative. We were honored to have the support of our strategic partner, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Regional Office for Central Asia, along with the Youth Union of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Committee of Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In 2021, amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the TIMUN Society once again rose to the occasion. The International Conference of TIMUN focused on pandemic-related issues and actively promoted the Kyoto Declaration on Advancing Crime Prevention, Criminal Justice, and the Rule of Law, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. More than 250 participants joined this critical dialogue.

In addition to our Model UN Conferences, the TIMUN Society is actively engaged in supporting various UN programs that align with our mission and values. We have proudly joined the global movement during the "16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence" campaign for three consecutive years. Our commitment to promoting gender equality and ending violence against women and girls is unwavering, and we stand with the UN in this crucial endeavor.

Each year, we also joyously celebrate the UN Day, an occasion that holds great significance in our calendar. During this special event, we extend invitations to UN Agencies to collaborate with us as we craft programs, discussions, and activities centered around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These events include a diverse array of contests, lectures, programs, and awareness-raising projects, all designed to raise consciousness about the importance of global cooperation and the pursuit of a more sustainable world.

Furthermore, we are thrilled to announce that we are taking our commitment to diplomacy and global cooperation a step further. In November 2023, we will be the proud organizers of the first-of-its-kind International Model UN Conference in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. This initiative represents an exciting expansion of our mission, allowing us to foster dialogue, understanding, and collaboration in a new region. We look forward to bringing together delegates from across the world to engage in meaningful discussions and take steps towards a better, more united world.

Now, in 2023, we are poised to make history once again. The Tashkent International Model UN Conference 2023 is our future endeavor, a testament to our commitment to the ideals of the United Nations. Under the banner of "One UN" and the slogan "Together for a Better World, Together for SDGs #LeaveNoOneBehind," we are proud to have the support of several UN Agencies, the Government of Uzbekistan, and a prominent private company. This conference will welcome close to 600 participants from across the globe and simulate 11 UN Committees, setting the stage for a new chapter in our journey towards a more equitable and sustainable world.
